Q:
Dear Michelle,
I am a 58 year-old woman who has always kept up with health and wellness. I try to look my best with diet and exercise and keeping up with the latest fashions. Obviously genetics is the one thing that works against me. My Grandmother, my mother, and I all have the “turkey neck.” I am not ready for a full face lift because that is the only thing that is bothering me (right now). I was reading online and doing my research and read some reports that Botox can help with this. Is this true? If so, SIGN ME UP!
Please help,
Gobble Gobble
A:
Dear Gobble Gobble,
That’s a great question! If your neck bands are similar to those in the above image on the left, then you would be a great candidate for Botox/Dysport. Botox/Dysport can be a very effective treatment option to diminish the appearance of vertical neck bands, which form as a result of straining the underlying platysma muscle. Botox/Dysport work by relaxing the muscle thereby softening the bands. The procedure itself is quick and patients report minimal discomfort. The results typically last approximately three to four months. However, if you have loose or excess skin in the neck, similar to the above image on the right, surgical intervention might be required for optimal results.
