As we get older, the sexy plump lips of our youth tend to disappear as our lips drop, thin and lose color. Luckily, there are ways to prolong the youthful look of your lips and make them look fuller than they actually are. We’ve come up with a list of tips and tricks to help keep your lips looking full, young and sexy for as long as possible.
Quick Fixes
1. Exfoliate your lips
Exfoliation not only makes your lips look fresh and young by getting rid of dead skin, but it also boosts blood flow to the lips. This makes them look juicier naturally without the use of lipstick or lip gloss. To exfoliate your lips, we recommend applying a thick layer of Vaseline to them. Then, gently rub a soft toothbrush against them for about two minutes. Do this about once a week.
If you’re looking to spend some money to make your lips look plumper, there are lip exfoliants out there that you can buy. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, there are a number of D.I.Y. recipes to follow, including these from Brit + Co.
2. Add the right color
Because we lose lip color as we get older, adding lipstick or lip stain to your lips can take years off of your appearance. But lipstick and lip stain can do more than just make you look younger. They can also make your lips look more voluptuous. Apply lighter shades to your lips to create a fuller appearance. Avoid dark colors, as they make your lips look thinner. We suggest using a light lip stain instead of lipstick because a lip stain usually lasts all day.
3. Make it shine
Work some beauty magic with a little shine. Applying clear lip gloss to your bottom lips and the center of your top lips will add dimension to them, creating the illusion of fuller lips. Try adding beige eye shadow along the edge of your upper lip to create even more of a pout.
Longer-Lasting Solutions
4. Keep your lips hydrated
Dry, cracked lips do not scream youth. In fact, they do quite the opposite. To keep your lips looking youthful and smooth, the first thing you should do is make sure that you keep your body hydrated. Drinking water is good for every part of your body, including your lips. Always keep a water bottle by your side so that you can drink whenever you are thirsty to ensure that you stay hydrated.
If hydrating your body with water doesn’t seem to help your lips, try moisturizing them with lip balm or other lip treatments. Regularly reapply these moisturizers. They will prevent and treat your dry lips, giving them a smoother and more attractive appearance.
5. Protect your lips from the sun
Most people don’t think to protect their lips from the sun. Yet lips have a thinner layer of skin than the rest of our body, so they are extremely vulnerable to the sun’s rays. Exposing your lips to the sun without protection can lead to sunburns, the development of wrinkles around your lips, and thinner lips in the future as a result of the impact UV rays have on collagen growth.
By protecting your lips from the sun, you are ensuring that they look young and full for a longer period of time. And luckily, protecting your lips is easy. All you have to do is put on lip balm with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF). We recommend putting on lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 every day. Reapply throughout the day.
6. Consider lip enhancement treatments
If none of the tips above help you to achieve the lips you desire, you may want to consider lip enhancement treatments. These treatments give your lips a naturally fuller and soft appearance in just a few minutes, and results last between six months and a year. Some people even experience results for much longer than this.
Filler materials used to enhance your lips include Restylane, Juvederm and fat transfer. Typically, patients can immediately return to their normal routine with little to no bruising or swelling. Lip enhancement treatments can give you the beautiful lips you have dreamed of within minutes.
We hope these lip tips and tricks help you to either maintain your lips’ youthful appearance, or achieve sexier and fuller lips. If you’re interest in lip enhancement treatments, speak to a doctor to find out the best treatment option for you.
