Your hands are one of the most telling signs of your age. While you can cover small wrinkles and age spots on your face with makeup, it’s much harder to hide tired, old or aging hands. That is why there has been a growing concern with keeping hands looking fresh and youthful. Fortunately, there are many ways to keep your hands from revealing your real age. Here are some great tips for making your hands look younger.
1. Keep Toxins Away From Your Hands
Some of the worst toxins for your hands are all of the various cleaning products that we use everyday. Bleach, dish soap, wood oil, window cleaner, and air freshener. These products might help degrease stoves and keep furniture looking and smelling great, but they can really damage your hands. If you are using these kinds of chemicals, make sure to wear protective rubber or latex gloves.
Another toxin you may not consider is the sun. Often we forget to cover our hands in a strong SPF sunscreen to keep them from getting damaged. Make sure that you always protect your hands when you are planning on being outside for more than 15 minutes. Reapply every two hours for the best protection.
2. Use Body Butter and Moisturizer
Keep your hands moisturized by applying a thick body butter or moisturizer throughout the day. One of the main causes of aged-looking hands is dried out skin. When this happens, the skin cracks and peels in unfavorable ways. When moisturizing with body butter, you’re creating a coat of protection on your hands, making them less likely to crack and peel.
3. Moisturize Before Bed
Make sure to use a lot of moisturizer or body butter before bed as well. It’s a great time for your hands to soak in the natural oils from the body butter without being affected by a day full of hustling around. Use a good amount to really take care of your hands.
4. Avoid Hot Water
Another great tip to making your hands look younger is to avoid hot water. Very hot water can easily dry out your hands and remove the essential oils that help protect your skin from cracking and wrinkling. Instead, use lukewarm water on your hands when washing them. Try to keep shower water at lukewarm temperature as well. This will save your hands and the rest of your skin.
5. Exfoliate your Skin
Try to exfoliate your skin once a month. We recommend utilizing a salt scrub, which has sea salt. Rub it against your hands to remove any dried out and dead skin cells. This process will make your hands glowing and make them feel rejuvenated.
6. Consider a Skin Tightening Treatment
If your hands have already aged or you’re concerned your hands look older than you feel, consider a skin tightening treatment that can take years off your hands’ appearance. We recommend The Harmony system by Alma Lasers, which uses near-infrared pulsed light technology to heat the deepest layers of skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. With no downtime after the treatment, it is a simple yet effective way to diminish the sight of wrinkles and improve skin laxity over time. With a combination of Pixel and IPL lasers, you can find even more dramatic results that will leave you astonished with your younger looking hands.
