Loose, flabby and sagging skin is one of the first signs of aging. Unfortunately, once your skin begins to loosen up and lose its elasticity, it’s hard to regain tight and youthful skin again. But luckily, there are a variety of proven and effective skin tightening treatments that may provide an overall refreshed and tightened look to the face. Let’s take a look at 4 cosmetic procedures to tighten loose skin.
Non-Surgical Skin Tightening Treatments
Pelleve
If you have mild to moderate skin laxity or sagging, non-surgical treatments such as Pelleve may be a good option for you. The Pelleve system, by Ellman International, Inc, uses radiofrequency to heat tissue deep beneath the skin to promote new collagen growth over time. This simple, non-invasive procedure may leave you with long-lasting smoother and firmer skin.
Though there is sometimes slight swelling or redness a few hours after treatment, patients usually experience no downtime. They can return to their normal routine straight away. Tighter skin should be seen within four to eight weeks after treatment, when new collagen has been produced. For the most drastic improvement, we recommend a series of two to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every year or two.
Harmony
Like Pelleve, the Harmony system, by Alma Lasers, is a minimally invasive and progressive treatment. But unlike Pelleve, Harmony uses near-infared pulsed light technology to correct wrinkles and skin laxity over time. These lasers heat the deepest layer of the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen to allow for continuing improvement that will be seen as the collagen begins to grow. As with Pelleve, there is usually no downtime. For a more dramatic transformation, we recommend combining Harmony with Pixel and IPL.
Venus Freeze
Venus Freeze is one of the quickest non-invasive treatments available. In about 25 minutes, the multifaceted device provides multiple benefits to the face, including wrinkle reduction, contouring and skin tightening. Venus Freeze does this by utilizing MP2 technology, restoring elasticity to sagging skin by boosting fibroblast growth, stimulating collagen growth and fostering elastin synthesis. Best of all, this treatment usually requires no downtime and is virtually pain-free. Many patients have found the treatment to be relaxing, comparing the feeling to that of a hot-stone massage.
Surgical Skin Tightening Treatments
Facelift
If you are interested in an overall improvement for moderate to severe sagging facial skin, a facelift is probably the best option for you. Facelifts are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures, and provide great improvement to the face with only a subtle change. Plastic surgeons achieve this by relocating the deeper facial tissues and draping the free skin over repositioned tissues, allowing for a more natural and longer-lasting result. After surgery, most patients can return to normal activities and begin seeing results ten days to two weeks after surgery.
