It’s really too bad that we can’t keep those full, pouty lips we enjoyed as a teen. The lips become thinner, they sometimes look unbalanced, and they appear more and more wrinkly. There’s something that can be done about it, however, and it’s an easier process than most would think. A great alternative to implants, dermal fillers can help enhance the lips by recreating the natural swooping perimeter contours and giving the lip tissue itself a boost via added volume.
Some of our clients here in the Chicago area do a bit of homework and already understand that several main types of filler gels are in use. In fact, some makers of dermal fillers now advertise three or four variations of a single product.
Hyaluronic Based Fillers
Most of these contain hyaluronic acid particles suspended in a gel. The particles are actually a type of sugar, and they attract and hold moisture. At the molecular level, water binds with the particles, and this results in slight plumping. The lips are fuller, have fewer wrinkles, and have a more balanced shape.
This filler gel is injected directly into the lip tissue or around the lip perimeter. Exactly where it goes and how much is used is determined during a consultation with the client. Results often last for nine months, after which repeat injections are just as easy to perform as the original treatment.
Simple Injection Procedure
We may apply a topical numbing agent to the skin beforehand. Some filler gels contain lidocaine or something similar, and this eases any discomfort. Most clients will experience a bit of reddening at the injection sites, but this is normal and will fade away in a few hours.
