Dermal fillers add volume to areas of the face where creases and hollow areas exist. This is accomplished in several ways, with the most common method being to use a filler gel that contains hyaluronic acid. This acid, a natural sugar substance, draws in and holds moisture in place. The result is a smoother skin surface. Fine wrinkles and creases become less visible. Juvederm is a family of gel-type filler compounds that are designed to smooth away wrinkles that form near the corners of the mouth and smile lines.
Certain variants of this formula are used to augment the lips, treat the cheeks and chin. We get a lot of questions about the various types of Juvederm and whether they are specifically formulated to treat certain problems with facial skin texture. Below, we will provide some answers and outline the benefits of this simple cosmetic treatment.
How Juvederm Works
This is a gel-based filler that is injected into and below the skin layers using a syringe and a blunt tip cannula. The different types of formula vary in thickness and viscosity. However, all contain hyaluronic particles. It is a moisture-holding compound that helps keep the skin smooth and soft.
When we enter into our mature adult years, moisturizing the skin becomes more difficult. A filler can help boost the skin surface and eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and hollows.
Juvederm works fast. Within a few hours after injection, the individual notices a smoother skin surface. This product also promises long-lasting results. Most of our patients report satisfactory results lasting from 9 to 22 months or more.
Consultation and Treatment
We will examine the skin surface closely and note the areas where a more plump surface would help smooth away age-related wrinkles, folds, and creases. We inject the gel below the skin so that it fills into the upper subcutaneous tissues. Depending on the area being treated and the thickness of the skin in these areas, we may use one or more different variants of the gel.
After about nine months for some of the fillers, the gel begins to dissolve and is eventually flushed from the body. It’s not considered a permanent solution for wrinkled or folded skin, but the patient benefits from knowing that if the results aren’t completely satisfactory, the visual appearance isn’t permanent. Additionally, we can use a reversal agent to remove the product immediately.
Major Benefits
Unlike other dermal fillers, Juvederm products are made with a rather smooth gel, and this prevents unwanted bumping or rippling. It works when used to treat localized problem areas. However, some of our patients have seen even more than satisfactory results even when it’s used to smooth way larger creases such as nasolabial folds.
When carefully injected into the correct areas beneath the skin, Juvederm can even help improve the lip boundary. Thinning lips can be restored to a more youthful, natural pout with an appealing swoop boundary.
