What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can be used to correct a deformity caused by trauma, an accident, or a birth defect. It can be used to take a bulbous nose and bring it down to a size and shape that is proportional to the rest of the face. A nose job, or rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to change the appearance of the nose.
Dr. Steven Dayan is able to take almost any part of your nose and adjust it to your specifications. This procedure is as much science as it is art, because it takes a skilled eye as well as a skilled hand in order to create a nose that will fit well with the rest of your face.

How Much Does It Cost?
Rhinoplasty can cost anywhere from $15,000 – $20,000 depending on the amount of reconstruction necessary to achieve your desired aesthetic goals. Also it depends on factors such as:
- Is the surgeon a board certified plastic surgeon?
- How much experience specifically with rhinoplasty the surgeon has
- The type of anesthesia used
- Prescription medications
- Facility quality and location
All things considered, the ultimate price will be determined by your aesthetic goals and the extent of your surgery.
What can a procedure accomplish?
The first step in the process is to come in for a consultation where we can talk about your goals. There are many things that a nose job can accomplish, including:
- Narrowing the appearance of the nostrils
- Reduce the size of the nose to bring balance to the face
- Reducing or eliminating the appearance of a bump on the bridge of the nose
- Reduce the width of the bridge
- Make the nostrils more symmetrical
- Reshape the dip, reducing downward or upward angles
Enhance Your Nose Features & Overall Facial Profile
Surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty treatments can help enhance your aesthetic and restore nostril inadequacies as well as alleviate self-consciousness. The nose is one of our defining facial features. Some people may feel that their nose is inadequate or does not meet their aesthetic satisfaction. If you are bothered by the appearance of your nose, Dr. Dayan provides the best transformational Chicago rhinoplasty procedures as an exciting answer to enhance & improve your facial profile, utilizing top modern-day techniques.
Nose, Nostrils, & Nasal Job Facial Transformations
Procedures may be performed to remove a large hump on the bridge of the nose as well as adjust the size of the nostrils. This procedure can also be used to help individuals who have breathing problems. Most breathing problems caused by the nose are due to a structural defect in the nose. Interestingly, the same structural defect that affects a person’s breathing often affects the appearance of the nose. So even when rhinoplasty is performed for functional reasons, the patient often experiences an improvement in the appearance of their nose.
What Are The Main Types of Procedures?
Though it is one of the most difficult cosmetic procedures to conduct, over 352,000 rhinoplasty procedures were performed in 2020, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Currently, rhinoplasty is most popular plastic surgery procedure. Cosmetic rhinoplasty patients receive treatments for a variety of aesthetic nose issues caused by genes or injury. A few common conditions that patients come in with include crooked nose, saddle nose, hump reduction, bulbous tip, long nose, wide or flat nose, and short nose. Along with appearance, many of my patients get nose jobs to improve the functionality of their nose, making breathing easier and correcting chronic sinusitis. Plastic surgery has progressed a lot in the last decade. There are now procedures that can target almost any area of the face, so you can look however you want. If you have gone through a major trauma, you can find reconstructive surgery for many areas of the face as well. Rhinoplasty is one of the many facial plastic surgery procedures that we offer at SDMD that can serve as either cosmetic surgery or a functional one. So whether you are looking to improve your profile, breathe a little easier, or correct an improperly healed broken nose, here is what it can do for you.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty Procedures
This procedure can be done for cosmetic purposes. If you don’t like the way your nose is shaped, simply tell Dr. Dayan what you would like instead. If the bridge is too high, or the tip of your nose is too big, we can correct that. He can also change the way your nostrils are shaped, among other things.
Functional Rhinoplasty
Sometimes people are born with slight defects in the way their nose is shaped. This can cause a variety of issues, which include problems with their breathing. If you were born with a nose that doesn’t function properly, Dr. Dayan can correct this through functional rhinoplasty.
The nose is the most prominent feature on your face. If there is something wrong with it, aesthetically or functionally, that can be a major issue. That’s why we provide top-rated functional rhinoplasty at SDMD in Chicago. We want to ensure that you love your nose as much as you love the rest of your face. Where does the word Rhinoplasty come from?
Rhino means nose, and plasty means to shape, which is why this procedure is also known as a nose job or a nose shaping surgery.
What is the difference between open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty?
During any rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Dayan uses either the open or closed rhinoplasty approach. Some conditions are best suited for open rhinoplasty, while others are best suited for closed rhinoplasty.
During open rhinoplasty, an external nasal incision is made and I de-glove the skin envelope from its underlying cartilaginous and bony skeleton. This way, I can see the cartilages in their entirety and difficult procedures can be done in the open with direct vision. Though very complicated, rhinoplasty procedures are best completed in open rhinoplasty, for others, a closed rhinoplasty is more appropriate. Why? Well, open rhinoplasty, in theory, has several disadvantages. These include more intra-operative swelling, which can disrupt vision, difficulty making minor adjustments as a result of the elevated skin, and a longer rhinoplasty procedure and recovery time.
In the closed rhinoplasty approach, surgical incisions occur inside of the nostrils, so that no external incisions are made. This means that close rhinoplasty is a less invasive approach that leaves no visible scarring. After performing nearly 3,000 rhinoplasties, I’ve developed a specialized closed approach that uses stability-enhancing maneuvers common to the more invasive open approach, but I employ them through a closed approach. This advancement has allowed for less swelling with little to no bruising and a quicker recovery period. Yet, not all patients have noses suited for closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty is sometimes the better option for more complicated procedures.
Rhinoplasty Results & Recovery Time
Rhinoplasty patients should have realistic expectations about their results. Noses won’t look perfect after surgery, but usually there is a drastic improvement in appearance. Results and recovery time vary depending on the procedure.
Depending on the specific case, the nasal splint is removed approximately one week after surgery. Within two to four weeks, many patients begin seeing results as swelling reduces. Typically, discomfort is minimal, but pain medication can be prescribed if necessary. After surgery, it’s important to avoid sun exposure and putting pressure on your nose.
Like always, my office is consistently dedicated to giving our patients the attention they deserve during their rhinoplasty recovery. Every patient that receives rhinoplasty will receive a recovery care package, and I will work to make your recovery time as comfortable as possible.
Is Your Nose Too Big or Too Small?
Unhappy with your nose? You are far from alone.
Having a well-proportioned nose is an important part of feeling like your face is symmetrical and attractive. Rhinoplasty, or more commonly known as a nose job, can help. Thanks to medical and scientific advances, many changes can be made to the shape and size of the nose in order to help you get the look you’ve always wanted.
What results can I expect from rhinoplasty in Chicago?
For the best possible results, all patients will thoroughly discuss what they would like to accomplish with our medical staff. If your visions from this procedure are realistic, our medical staff will help see them realized. Results from this are permanent, so patients can enjoy their new and improved facial profile for the long term! To learn more about the results you can expect, contact us today!
- Increasing or decreasing the size of the nose
- Adjusting the nose’s angle
- Reshaping the nostril tip
- Correcting the appearance of bumps, indents or other imperfections
How Long Do the Results Last?
Generally, results are intended to last for a lifetime. However, there are some cases where rhinoplasty results do not age with the patient due to the way collagen breaks down in the sub-dermal layers of skin over time. A skilled plastic surgeon will be able to perform a nose job that will age well, even several years down the line.

Who is a Top Candidate for a Nose Job in Chicago?
Many Chicago residents who are concerned about the appearance of their nose may be good candidates for a nose job in Chicago. It is understandable that people are concerned about the appearance of their nose since it is one of the most prominent features on the face. Just a small misalignment or a small defect of the nose can create dramatic facial imbalance. It is understandable that this can affect a person’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Sadly, teasing about a crooked, large, or small nose usually begins in grade school. Children and teens are often teased by their peers about the appearance of their nose. The insecurities about the appearance of one’s nose that began as a child can stick with a person for the rest of their life.
For this reason, some adults in Chicago shy away from social settings. The only way to permanently change the appearance of your nose is via a nose job. Regardless of your reason for seeking out this procedure, virtually anyone makes a good candidate. You should be in good health and preferably a non-smoker, as smoking inhibits the healing process. Like any surgery, rhinoplasty takes some time to recover from, so you will need to be able to take time off of work or school. Any other qualifying factors can be discussed with you at your personalized consultation with Dr. Dayan.
A good candidate for a nose job will be in good overall health. It is highly recommended that smokers quit before this procedure to reduce the risk of complications. This is a procedure that is typically not done on those in their teens because their faces are not done growing. It is also important to go into this treatment with realistic expectations and a positive outlook. Ready to learn more about how a nose job can help you get the look you have always wanted? Choosing the Most Qualified Chicago Doctor
Like with any cosmetic procedure, choosing the right doctor is extremely important to receive the results you want, the care you need, and a safe Chicago rhinoplasty procedure. This is especially important with rhinoplasty, as it is considered one of the most difficult cosmetic procedures to conduct.
It’s important to make sure that your doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery, and it’s best if the doctor specializes in the area of plastic surgery that you are thinking of getting, such as facial surgery.
When looking for a doctor for it’s important that she or he has an understanding of the complex three-dimensional internal and external anatomy of the nose. They should also have respect and understanding for nose function and physiology. Of course, your doctor should have the technical skill and a plethora of experience performing rhinoplasty in the past. Also, ensure that your doctor is listening to your needs and desires. If they seem uninterested in what you have to say about your treatment and body, you should definitely move on to the next doctor. After all, they are treating you, not just your nose.

Schedule a Consultation in Chicago Today
Along with a consultation, you will need a physical examination done of your nose and face before moving forward. This will allow us to determine how much tissue and cartilage there is to work with. We will establish a treatment plan that is both realistic and fits with your goals.
If you are looking to add bulk to the nose, additional cartilage can be added. This cartilage can be harvested from either the ear or further up in the nostrils. In some cases where dramatic changes are being made, bone grafting may be necessary. Recovery from a nose job is relatively quick compared to many other cosmetic procedures. When healing goes as planned, you should be able to return to work in as little as a week or two.
As a protective measure, all patients will be advised by our medical staff to wear bandaging for around a week. Some patients may experience puffiness or swelling in the areas that surround the nose.
